Good morning. It’s been a week full of unexpected kindness and community spirit. In Thirsk, England, volunteers have become nightly guardians for a group of ducks who prefer the town center’s parking lot over the riverbank, escorting them safely and forging new friendships along the way.
In another animal feat, at Colchester Zoo, a lost otter cub named Mingo found comfort among flamingos before being rescued and given a second chance at life.
In Japan, older women are finding renewed purpose as “rental grandmothers,” offering warmth and wisdom to those in need of family support.

GOOD COMMUNITY
Ducks Take Over Town Center for Naps, Locals Form Daily Duck Escort to the River
Every evening in Thirsk, England, a group of mallard ducks and their ducklings make a 15-minute trek from the river to the town center, choosing a parking lot as their preferred sleeping spot. Concerned for their safety, local volunteers have become “duck wardens,” escorting the birds and placing traffic cones around them to protect them from cars and late-night revelers.
The reason for the ducks’ unusual choice isn’t fully known, but some believe it’s to avoid riverside predators or to enjoy the warmth of the cobblestones. Whatever the cause, the nightly ritual has brought the community together.
Volunteers take turns on shifts, donning high-visibility jackets and even receiving tea from a nearby pub as they watch over the ducks. Since the group began their efforts, no ducks have been lost on their watch.
This heartwarming tradition has fostered new friendships and a strong sense of community spirit, all in the name of kindness to their feathered neighbors.

Lost Otter Cub Discovered Snuggled Up and Snoring in Flamingo Flock, Leaving Zoo Staff Stunned
A tiny wild otter cub, later named Mingo, baffled staff at Colchester Zoo when he was found snoring peacefully among the flamingos. The orphaned cub, just a few months old, was discovered alone and quickly taken in for care.
Experts remain puzzled about how Mingo ended up in the flamingo habitat. What’s certain is that he wouldn’t have survived much longer without help.
Thanks to quick action, Mingo is now safe and will be released back into the wild when he’s strong enough.

Tim Berners-Lee Shares the Blueprint for the World Wide Web
Thirty-four years ago today, Tim Berners-Lee released the groundbreaking documents that described his invention of the World Wide Web, laying the foundation for a new era of global communication. While working at CERN, Berners-Lee envisioned a system that could link information across computers using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and the first web server, CERN HTTPd. His manager called the proposal “vague, but exciting,” not realizing it would soon reshape how humans access and share knowledge.
Berners-Lee went on to design and build the first web browser, forever changing the digital landscape. Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, he now directs the World Wide Web Consortium, ensuring the web continues to evolve as an open, accessible resource for all.
