See a Polar Bear Devour a Giant 1,400-Pound Pumpkin in Pure Joy

Henry the polar bear at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat in Ontario recently received a surprise treat: a 1,400-pound pumpkin, even heavier than he is. At first, Henry was wary of the giant gourd, but curiosity soon won out, and he began munching on the sweet, crunchy flesh.

Aidie Creek Gardens donated the pumpkin after a staff member spotted it on the highway and learned it would otherwise be composted. The nonprofit sanctuary often receives gifts for its bears, especially during Polar Bear Awareness Week.

Photos show Henry gleefully smashing and devouring about a third of the pumpkin in one sitting, leaving him in a contented food coma.

This heartwarming moment highlights the joy and care provided to rescued polar bears who can no longer live in the wild.

Breakthrough Drug Combo Sparks New Hope for Prostate Cancer Patients

A new drug combination is giving hope to men with advanced prostate cancer. Researchers found that adding niraparib, a targeted therapy, to standard hormone treatment significantly delayed cancer progression in patients with specific genetic mutations.

The international trial showed a 37% reduction in cancer growth risk, and even greater benefits for those with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations.

While side effects were more common, the results support more exhaustive genetic testing and targeted treatment for those most at risk.

Further research is needed to confirm long-term survival benefits, but this breakthrough marks a promising step forward for patients and their families.

Voyager 1 Reaches Saturn and Sends Humanity Its First Close-Up of the Rings

45 years ago today, NASA’s Voyager 1 became the first spacecraft to reach Saturn, sending back breathtaking images that revealed the planet’s rings in never-before-seen detail. After a gravity-assist flyby of Jupiter, Voyager 1 swung toward Saturn, coming within 77,000 miles of its cloud tops. Its cameras and sensors uncovered the planet’s complex ring structures, powerful 1,100 mph winds, and dazzling auroras near the poles, data that still shapes planetary science today.

Voyager 1 also measured Saturn’s atmosphere, finding it was made mostly of hydrogen with only about 7% helium, suggesting that heavier helium may sink toward the planet’s core, possibly explaining why Saturn emits more heat than it receives from the Sun. The mission continues to this day, more than 15 billion miles from Earth, as the farthest human-made object in existence.

Other notable November 12 events:

1918: Austria declared itself a republic after World War I.

1927: The Holland Tunnel opened, linking New York City to New Jersey.

1931: Abbey Road Studios opened in London, later home to The Beatles and Pink Floyd.

1990: Tim Berners-Lee published his formal proposal for the World Wide Web.
